Sam Falls is an artist who comes from New York, his work is a blend of a variety of means such as photography, painting and digital processing. First of all, he scan a photo that he shot before, which is ordinary scenery, portrait, or still life. Then he used the tools of Photoshop to draw on the scanned photo, then print it out. After that he used oil colour and crayons continue to draw something that similar with the drawing he paint by Photoshop on the printed picture. So the final work seems not only between photography and painting, but also the manual drawing and its digital copies that are draw by Photoshop tools. The form of his work is complicated, he is an artist who combines photography with other art forms, it is hard to simply say his work is just photography. So he is not only a photographer, but also a writer, painter, videographer, and a curator.
It’s very interesting that I have the shirt in Sam’s work. Acutally, it’s a model look of my favorite fashion brand which is called Peter Jensen.
As an artist Sam Falls moves between varied themes and subject matter in his work, and he also experiments with different styles and mediums. His work draws parallels between the two disciplines through their focus on color and light. Falls often uses personal fixtures in his life as the subject of his work, from his mother to his horse.
